The Dark Knight: Comic Books' Crowning Jewel

Now i retract the statements i made last week involving the Dark Knight a few months ago, when i said that Batman Begins is better.

The fact of the matter is.... IT ISN'T.

The complexities and storytelling in the Dark Knight was just as great as the original Christopher Nolan flick.

Remember the old saying, "A movie is only as good as it's villain?" well that quote pretty much sums up the film. Batman Begins had Mili Ducard (played by Liam Neeson) and Scarecrow (Cilian Murphy), who in the Dark Knight only had 5 minutes of screentime what does that say? Begins did precisely what it was supposed to do... focus on Bruce Wayne and Batman. Where as the Dark Knight focused on the health of Gotham City. People made me sick with all the obsession with Heath Ledger's character as opposed to the plot, which made me think he overpowered the movie's perception compared to Begins. However credit is due, Ledger left his life's mark with the greatest film of his career. But the more i watch the movie, the more i love Commissioner Gordon, Harvey Dent, and the plot!

If you haven't purchased or seen the movie, you're missing out on the greatest comic book movie of our time. If it wins some Academy Awards, it will be a breakthrough for Comic Book films and fans throughout the world! There has never been a Comic movie to take home two Oscars and this movie has the best chance to do so.

Video Game Review of the Week

This week i had the priviledge to rent two games from Gamefly.com for free. Unfortunately i couldn't get a copy of Shaun White's Snowboarding or Pure, but i did recieve two games that aren't quite my style, but i enjoyed nonetheless. The first one was:

NBA Live 09

I was a bit confused when they chose Tony Parker to be the coverboy of the video game, but now i know why. The game has as much personality as the Spurs themselves. It has some novel additions to the game such as the loading screen training simulation and the DNA.

But there are some serious setbacks like, the fact that they haven't updated the Oklahoma City Thunder's team name, when you buy the game they are originally called the Oklahoma City Oklahoma Cities, with the same jerseys as the San Antonio Spurs. I dont know if you can upload the new team name and jerseys when you update the game via online through the EA Server, but it was pretty disappointing. And the fact that you can no longer create-a-team really got my hopes and stabbed the shit out of them.

The other thing that really got me was the fact that (yes, i am a n00b at basketball video games) the last time i played one was in 2005 and the game was so much simpler then! If you are a newcomer to basketball, let alone EA Sports progression games that insist you keep up with every years edition, than i advise you to stay away until you play NBA Live 04, 05, 06, 07, and 08. The game isn't really going to help you much. But if you are a serious gamer for these things, it ceases to amaze, Graphics are great, the gameplay is smooth and authentic. GRADE: B-

Lego Batman: the Video Game

It was a bit of a strange request but i found this game far more entertaining than the previous game, only because it doesn't demand so much knowledge and button memory to play. its simple and doesn't require dialogue to get you into the action. The characters are cute and identifyable (as Batman and Robin always was). But what always makes these Lego games so great, is that they are fun, clean and have a great family enthusiasm about it. This one in particular has a solid theme of TEAMWORK.

Constantly throughout the story line, you play as the Caped Crusader alongside his sidekick Robin and there are certain suits that have abilities to get through challenges, and it requires teamwork for the duo to continue. For example, there is a suit that Batman has that is flame proof, and there is a challenge, where batman must press a lever that is surrounded by flame, then once the lever is pressed the flames are reduced and Robin can pass. It's a great co-op game and is a major time consumer (if you have it). GRADE: A-

Stay away from Cameron road in West Covina!

Its like Roadkill Central!

There were about 4-6 Dead possums aligning the road, they may have been skunks... but i dont know the smell was horendous nonetheless!

It seems like the street always has liquid critters paving the path, but today took it to an all new low! whether it's because the gated communities have a lot of greenery that attracts the vermin or what, but they always seem to be out there!

So if you are going down Cameron from Grand to Barranca... watch out, the smell will get ya... if the guts and blood dont. muhahahahahah.

Broncos Magic Number = 1

On Thursday, the Chargers easily disposed of the Oakland Raiders 34-7. Thus meaning that the magic number for the Broncos to clinch the AFC West division was remaining at 2. If you dont know about the policy on Magic Numbers, it is a sequence of what needs to happen for Denver to clinch the division championship. For example, since the Broncos' was 2 (now 1); They needed any combination of:

-A San Diego Charger loss

and/or

-A Broncos win.

Since Denver defeated the Chiefs on sunday, that diminished the number down one. Which by the way i love those orange jerseys they dawned twice this season, for the first time since 2004 when they lost to the Raiders. Anyways, with the remaining 3 weeks (6 games between Den and SD), if any of the options happen, Jay Cutler and company will be headed to their first playoff appearance under the helm of the young quarterback.

INJURIES:

As if the running back position was bad enough for them, after losing runningbacks Selvin Young, Ryan Torain, Cecil Sapp, Michael Pittman, Andre Hall, and Anthony Alridge, news came after the terrifying play on sunday against the chiefs, that the rookie standout fullback from Arkansas, Peyton Hillis, is going to be out for the rest of the season!

The Broncos only other option remaining on the runningback front is Tatum Bell, the same Bell that prematurely packed his bags and robbed teammate Rudi Johnson the day Johnson signed with the Lions. And yes the same Bell that the Broncos traded two years ago for cornerback Dre Bly. If he was to go out, Patrick Ramsey, Dre Bly, or many of the other defensive backs may have to become a temporary solution.

-Selvin Young is questionable for Sunday's standoff with the Carolina Panthers
